Time for a wake up Call

Eusebio, Portuguese footballing legend has just told the world that Ronaldo will rule the world. I do not doubt Eusebio's quality as a player, I would be one of the last few people to do that. After all, it was pretty much Eusebio versus Real Madrid, at a time when Real Madrid housed players like Puskas and Di Stefano. And Eusebio came out at the better end. Ferenc Puskas became one of the few players to score a hat trick in the Champions League Final and lose (or is he the only one, most likely, but I am not so sure)

Yet, for all his footballing talent, he has no idea what he's saying. Maybe he is trying to boost the Portuguese side's confidence. If this is the case, I forgive him.

If it is otherwise, I respectfully disagree Eusebio.

Ronaldo, according to Eamon Dunphy "has gifts, but has no talent". I agree. You see him do his fancy stepovers when there is absolutely no one around him. What is the point? Of course, he also does it against the defenders of Watford, but then again, its almost as if no one is around you.

The 23-year old can now add ‘The Black Pearl’ to his list of supporters, with the 56-year old telling Reuters: “Ronaldo has nothing to prove to anyone, he has proved his talent by being the top scorer in England.

"He has proved it by winning the Premier League, by winning the Champions League, with Manchester United.

"Now he is here in the national team but it is different. He is part of the group, it's not Cristiano plus 10, it's not about him, it's about the team of 11 players.

"That group mentality is good and good for him. He can concentrate on the football and it helps keep his feet on the ground.

"He can become the best player in the world."

Rubbish. He can never become the best player in the world. He's a lousy cheat who dives at the slightest physical contact. If he doesnt want to play a contact sport, he should play badminton, or practice diving for the Olympics. He has already proved his capabilities in diving on the football field.

You would never see Eusebio do that. You would never see Cruyff do that, nor would you see Maradona or Zidane do that. To call Ronaldo the greatest player in the world, you are comparing him to people of this calibre. People who can change a game within the blink of an eyelid. He is not in this league, nor will he ever be there.

Ronaldo is selfish. He plays for personal glory and not for the good of the team. I quote Eusebio

"Now he is here in the national team but it is different. He is part of the group, it's not Cristiano plus 10, it's not about him, it's about the team of 11 players.

"That group mentality is good and good for him. He can concentrate on the football and it helps keep his feet on the ground.

Now, in this message, I think Eusebio himself is telling Ronaldo to play with the team. Eusebio says it was Ronaldo + 10 with United. It certainly was. And now he's telling him to play with the team. So this makes me feel that Eusebio's statement was to boost the Portuguese team's morale.

But Sir Alex Ferguson, 10 Premier League Medals, 2 Champions League Medals and 5 FA Cup Medals, still thinks that Ronaldo is bigger than the team. He's okay with the fact that Ronaldo is scoring goals and his team are winning. So am I! United winning, makes me happy no doubt. But Ferguson is not securing the team's future.

He is being selfish. He has only 3 years left to go (or so he claims, but for convenience sake let us assume that he's leaving after 3 years). All he wants to do in those 3 years are to win as many trophies as he can. He wants Ronaldo because Ronaldo, for all his selfishness, can win you games against the weaker teams. He's got Scholes, Rooney and Giggs to win him the games against the larger teams.

Ronaldo, by taking 40397609 shots against say, Wigan, will score twice. Now taking so many shots does not necessarily mean that all his shots are on target, or the fact that he is in any position to score when he takes these shots. Ferguson needs these kind of players to win him these matches.

Why did Ferguson sell Van Nistelrooy? After a trophyless season (I really dont call the Carling Cup a trophy, no offence to the Tottenham fans), Ferguson himself wasnt sure of his own future. Would he get sacked? He realised the team's dependence on Van Nistelrooy for goals. He sold him. The result? They won the Premier League!

It is absolutely disgusting that a manager of Ferguson's level should be so petty as to only think of himself, and of course his lovely Portuguese assistant, Carlos Queiroz. Why else do you think such untalented and useless players like Nani are making their way into Manchester United's squad. It is widely believed that Roy Keane and Van Nistelrooy left the club mainly because of Queiroz' involvement, the fact that he is almost regarded as manager of the club. It leaves me disgusted as a Manchester United fan.

The fact that Ferguson is pushing Queiroz to be his successor at United is terrible. I would much rather someone like Mark Hughes or even Roy Keane (given his time) takes over the managerial reign at United. I pray they do.

Now that was the most biased post i'v read in perhaps the whole of my life.
come on. you cannot deny facts. and you have to stop thinking of ronaldo as the same he was 3 years ago.
fancy step overs when no one is there, 3 years ago. Diving all the time, 3 years ago.
I mean, you cannot deny the fact that you hate him, and your unwilling to accept that he is a brilliant player, and has the potential to become legendary. I personally don't know why you think of Giggs as a legendary player. He is good. Not great. Legendary yes, perhaps only because he has played for this many years in the united team, consistently.

I mean, you say, he can NEVER become great, and say that "People who can change a game within the blink of an eyelid. He is not in this league, nor will he ever be there."
Are you kidding me ? Are you trying to tell me Ronaldo is not able to change games with the blink of an eye ? What about the fancy step overs that leave the defenders not knowing where to go, the sudden burst of speed, and the consequent shot at goal, through pass or cross. I'v seen enough number of times, when ronaldo's pure genuisness in speed and control changing games and getting united goals.
And if you really have to know, there was no one who hated ronaldo after the 06 world cup more than me. fancy step overs , uselesness, for what he did to england and rooney, i hated him. and vowed to hate him forever.
but he changed as a player. he is legendary material. some thing always seems on the cards when he has the ball. his speed, unmatched man. helps in counter attacks. watch portugal this euro and maybe you'l know. the 3rd goal , his speed was highlighted, control too, and unselfishness.
Sure, every player, when in the form he is in, will fancy a crack at goal. But you cant expect all of them to go in. And his team mates know that he is entitled to taking such shots, because he's well capable of scoring them.
Sure, the fancy step overs USED to be annoying. Now, it's used to perfection. And ofcourse, you cant expect anyone for that matter to be flawless. Sure , the ball will be taken away from him, 3, 4 maybe 10 times. But again when attacking, he has the freedom to not do the fancy stepover and pass instead or burst away from the defender, because they are expecting the stepover again. pass , or shoot. goal.
because in football, all that matters in the end, are goals.

I am not going to deny that I hate Ronaldo. That would be lies. And I dont lie. (not too occassionaly). Ronaldo will change games against Fulham, Wigan and Watford. Name one big game that Ronaldo's changed for United.

Think about it. Whereas a Roy Keane will do it for you against Juventus (AWAY, mind you).

Giggs is outstanding. He's ageing, thats all. Another person who changed a game for us. 99 semi finals of the FA Cup against Arsenal, or have you not seen the goal? What I said was, the fancy stepovers are there, against teams of lower quality.

Even when's he's put up against quality he struggles. Barcelona. Arsenal. Chelsea (barring perhaps the Champions League final). Crap player.

What fancy stepovers have left quality full backs in confusion? Maradona ran up against a full strength English defence. Giggs did it against an Arsenal that housed Sol Campbell and lot who were at the peak of their capabilities.

You, my friend, are unwilling to see the truth, because of your obvious love for fancy play. I've never seen Ronaldo's pure "geniusness", as you call it. EVER.
I will not deny the fact that he played well in the Champions League final. It would be stupid to say that.

Do you know how many cracks at goal Ronaldo takes in a game? When any idiot knows that he's not in ANY position to score. Don't use Ronaldo and unselfish in the same sentence. Or in the same paragraph. Or even in the same BOOK, or webpage or whatever! Its stupid of you!
In football, all that matters is goals, if you are a manager. If you are a fan, who wants to see good football being played, you wouldnt like people like Ronaldo playing on the big stage.

Ronaldo is STILL a cheat. Barcelona home, how many times did the cunt dive? How many times did he wave his hands at the referee, trying to get a free kick. How many times did he yell at his team mates for a small mistake on their part?

Ronaldo is a fool. He is not world class. He's an idiot.

hey aqib anwar...i agree with the fact dat keshav has made it really obvious dat he hates ronaldo but i agree with keshav completely.for me ronaldo was a better player last season.Ronaldo for me is the most overhyped player ever in the history of football.
First of all the phrase "so many goals for a midfielder" is not valid cos fergie plays him upfront. He rarely bothers helping out his defenders.Whenever tevez or rooney lose the ball they try their level best to get it back.Ronaldo would b busy complaining to the ref or blaming his team mates. You have mentioned ronaldo can change a game with a through pass. Are you out of ur mind???I bet ronaldo wouldnt even knw what a throught pass is.Ronaldo has got 8 assists this season(including UCL and Fa Cup).
Van nistelrooy pretty much scores the same no. goals ronaldo does every season. But no1 takes his name cos he doesnt do any fancy stepovers against the likes of bramble and darren moore.Ronaldo never performs against the top teams. He has scored some goals against top teams this seasonn thanc to rooney, tevez and carrick who work their ass off while this guy is too busy complaining and diving.Just 3 months ago portugal had played a match with italy(italy who had cannavaro and de rossi). The supposed to be the best player in the world dint get to touch the ball the whole match. He just cant cope against the best.Roanldo has no absolutely no class and i am pretty sure he will come unstuck in the latter stage of euros

Aqib Anwar. are you out of your mind? Sorry to say I agree with Keshav as much as I hate agreeing with him.You say Giggs was never a great player and is a legend only cause of the amount of games played? How long have you been following football? The Slalom Goal against Arsenal was voted the greatest ever in FA Cup history, The fact that he had to beat 3 world class defenders and one of them twice before beating Seaman was a great goal all by itself. Adams, Dixon and Keown (I think). Put Ronaldo in front of those three right now and he would not even be able to get passed the half way line , and giggs ran nearly the full length to score.

Alright I will admit it, I think Ronaldo has improved as a player tremendously but still I would not rate him in the same category of giggs, cantona, keane , Zola or Zidane.( Zola was my childhood favorite so therefore he is in that list) You would see and still see those guys work and win back every ball they lost, unlike Ronaldo who sits on the ground waiting for the whistle to blow. Ronaldo thinks he is bigger than the referees by stopping his run when he is slightly touched. You will never see a Paul Scholes doing that.

You might argue that Ronaldo scored the best ever free kick this season against Portsmouth, but I beg to disagree I think John Arne Risse free kick against Manchester united a few years ago was way better.

8 assists for a midfielder who has quality is pathetic in a single season, 42 goals isn't but most of the time he played out of position as a striker. And its not like he was a fish out of water as a striker.Puskas, who I consider one of the greatest ever who also falls in the category of Giggs, to realized that the team was greater and allowed DiStefano to grab all the spotlight. Let me know of an instance where he won us a game against major Opposition. He missed a penalty kick in the champions league final for gods sake and he would not have had the goal if it wasn't for the hard work of his team mates, What Ronaldo should realize is that the team made him great, it wasn't his undoubted talent. For all the names that I mentioned above the team always came first for them. Zidane cried when he left Juventus. Giggs never will leave the club. Have you ever heard Zola say that they won the match because of him? How many times have you heard Ronaldo say that?

Those 'LEGENDS' realized that they were who they were because of their team, a fact Ronaldo cannot get into his tiny little brain (it shrunk with all the hair care products that has been going into his scalp)

I admit that Ronaldo has talent but put him with a team like Derby he wont even be considered a threat. I think Ferguson should sell him, find someone like Micah Richards to take over the mantle of right back for Gary Neville, Replace Silvestre with a young talented left back or upgrade the Brazilian twins for the job. Get a Out and Out Striker, Like Huntelaar or Fabiano to be the main target man. Although most of them might not make their way to Old Trafford.

We also need a class Winger to replace Ronaldo and believe me he is replaceable.I don't agree with he fact that Nani is not a good player. I think Ferguson will mold him just like he did with Ronaldo before he retires and Nani reminds me of Ronaldo in his first year being at United.

GO Ronaldo Go..... I mean to Madrid earn your millions and realize you are not going to win anything that great, then move to LA Galaxy and earn more but never have the respect from others who admired your talents at Manchester United
